Come enjoy a cheap ($2) all-you-can-eat pizza dinner and watch a stellar movie that will certainly impact you! On Saturday, April 2nd at 5pm, we’re hosting a pizza and movie night at Hessel Church (5060 Hessel Road, Sebastopol). All too often good intensions by well meaning Christians have created “art” (movies, music, etc.) that is meant to be meaningful but often ends up cheesy. That’s not the case in this instance. “To Save a Life” is an awesome movie written specifically to and for teenagers, and its message is powerful. When you watch this movie, you can’t help but feel impacted. Addressing difficult but realistic issues including parental divorce, suicide, partying, teen pregnancy and more, “T.S.A.L.” will leave you asking some great, hard questions. And it will point you in the direction to find good answers. So come enjoy some great pizza and watch a cool flick with us. It might just change your life. And if you already participate in one of the youth groups coming, then make sure and bring some friends who aren’t sure about God–you just might save a life. Oh, and following the movie you will get to hear an amazing story from a guy with an awesome accent (Northern Irish). I don’t make many guarantees, but I guarantee that you won’t leave this event disappointed.

I came across the website because I discovered that they offer a daily devotional geared toward teenagers. Knowing how challenging it can be to make time to spend in God's Word everyday listening to Him, getting His wisdom, and interacting with Him, I realized that it could be a huge help to have good daily devotionals available on the internet. So here's my offer: check out http://www.planetwisdom.com/devotional/ and read today's daily devotional on Joseph. If God encourages you through it, then give Him the opportunity to encourage you and give you His wisdom every day byputting it in your Favorites/Bookmarks on your internet browser. Check it out every day. It only takes 5 minutes or so. But hopefully God will use it to help us want to spend a lot more than that time with Him. Let's make God the one and only burning passion in our lives. He is the only one worthy of that place, He is the greatest friend, father and king we can ever know!

Hey students/parents,

If you don’t have time to read this entire blog, then at least check out http://www.planetwisdom.com/devotional/ and read today’s daily devotional on Joseph. If God encourages you through it, then give Him the opportunity to encourage you and give you His wisdom every day by putting it in your Favorites/Bookmarks on your internet browser.

I had a great opportunity this past weekend to spend an entire day with adults who love and work with teenagers on a daily basis, as well as a bunch of teenagers who are excited about God and who want to be used to impact their culture for Christ. It was awesome!!! In the midst of the day, I got to meet a new friend named Mark Matlock. Mark is an incredible guy who has devoted his life to impacting teenagers with the gospel. He runs a cool organization called Wisdom Works (check out www.wisdomworks.com) that puts on conferences for teenagers called Planet Wisdom (see it here-www.planetwisdom.com)–who knows, maybe we will take our students to one of these conferences at some point.

I love the biblical message that Mark shares–his heart is to see teenagers learn to understand what wisdom is. He defines wisdom as “the capactiy to see and understand life from God’s point of view.” In other words, it’s being able to look at life like God does (accurately), and then to act according to God’s persepctive. What an amazing ability to have! We know that we gain this wisdom through a few ways: 1) First and foremost, we learn God’s wisdom from His Word (Proverbs 1:7-”The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despises wisdom and instruction.”). The proverbs are chalked full of great snippets of wisdom, and we learn them all through people’s lives in Scripture, especially Jesus’. 2) Another great place to acquire wisdom is from godly Christians who have lived life longer than us, who have experienced all kinds of things, and who have walked with Jesus a long time. Don’t underestimate the value of having older godly Christians in your life to share wisdom with you.

I accidentally came across the Planet Wisdom website today. It wasn’t because I was trying to stalk Mark Matlock (though I do greatly admire the man, from what I know of him). I came across the website because I discovered that they offer a daily devotional geared toward teenagers. Knowing how challenging it can be to make time to spend in God’s Word everyday listening to Him, getting His wisdom, and interacting with Him, I realized that it could be a huge help to have good daily devotionals available on the internet. So here’s my offer: check out http://www.planetwisdom.com/devotional/ and read today’s daily devotional on Joseph. If God encourages you through it, then give Him the opportunity to encourage you and give you His wisdom every day by putting it in your Favorites/Bookmarks on your internet browser. Let’s make God the one and only burning passion in our lives. He is the only one worthy of that place, He is the greatest friend, father and king we can ever know!

Blessings!

Psalm 62:5-8 “God, the one and only—I’ll wait as long as he says. Everything I hope for comes from him, so why not? He’s solid rock under my feet, breathing room for my soul, an impregnable castle: I’m set for life. My help and glory are in God—granite-strength and safe-harbor-God—so trust him absolutely, people; lay your lives on the line for him. God is a safe place to be.”

Is the close of summer and returning to school all bad? Not necessarily. Here's at least 3 things you can look forward to right now...

Is this how you felt about going back to school???

Hey Guys,

There’s no question that this time of year you have all types of different emotions running through you–excitement to see you friends on a daily basis, nervousness about figuring out where you are going to fit in at school this year, giddiness (if that’s a word) over showing off your new fashion bombs and threads, dread over all of the homework assignments, papers and tests (though some of you secretly or not-so-secretly are excited for that), hope that this year will be better than last year… So what do you do with all of these emotions, feelings, thoughts, and questions?

Let me share some thoughts that should encourage you as you jump back into your school routine:

More time with friends always rocks! Whether you will be seeing your friends every day or 1-2 times per week now that school is back in session, that is a great thing! As much as I enjoyed the chance to sleep in and watch a ridiculous amount of movies or play hours of video games, time with friends is much better than both of those things.

Routine = Accomplishment. For most of us, being back into a scheduled routine helps us accomplish a lot more than our summer schedule, which tends to be just mad. While you may wish that you could omit some of your routine, overall it is much more rewarding and enjoyable to be accomplishing things rather than just wasting another day away.

Putting your faith into practice. The routine of school and all of the social interactions that come with it will give you tons of opportunity to live out your faith. Whether it is honoring the Lord through your studies and school work, sharing encouragement and accountability with your friends, reaching out to the strangers and outcasts who no one bothers to talk to or befriend, or even practicing the discipline of getting into God’s Word on a daily basis so it can renew your mind and transform your heart (Romans 12:1-2).

As Paul encourages us in 1 Timothy 1:5, we should remember that the point of all Scripture is to teach us to “love (as God loves), which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith.” Let’s practice the love of Christ this year so that people see our lives and can physically see that there is something different about us. Not just our clothes, our religious values, and hopefully not judgmental attitudes. May they see a love overflowing in our words, attitudes and actions that comes from a supernatural source that they can’t describe. As we walk with Christ this year, may people see more of Him in us than they see us apart from Him. To quote a strange southern comedian, let’s “gitter done!!!”
